Equestrian photography.

Horses have been a passion of mine even before I became interested in photography. My work has helped to illustrate features in national and international publications, most recently Tatler, Horse and Hound, Country Life, Cowdray Parks Centenary book and my publication The Royals at Polo. The Royals book is a collection from my archive of Her Majesty and Prince Philip, Charles and Anne, dating from the early '50's through to the present time, and more recently featuring Princes William and Harry in action on the polo field. Many of the images are quite unique as I was the only photographer allowed on site to record the games.

Friday. Arrive at 4pm to register. Meet and greet. Evening meal.
Saturday. Breakfast, followed by the morning spent at Wye Oak Quarterhorse Centre where we will concentrate on horse portraiture, head and shoulder, and full length images, and photographing the horses in training. Back to the centre for lunch before visiting Cowdray Park Polo Club to photograph the afternoon's action, concentrating on use of lenses and shutter speeds to freeze the action or give the impression of speed. After supper there would be a talk about colour management or associated subjects.
Sunday. After breakfast we will have a full day's workshop concentrating on the printing of your images on Fine Art paper, mount cutting and presentation, stopping of course for coffee and lunch. Each student will leave with 1 - 20" x 16 and 2 - A3 mounted giclee prints ready for framing. If time allows you will also have the opportunity to print some of your images onto mugs. The day will round off with a critique of your favourite work by fellow students.

One day course

Morning spent on location at Wye Oak American Quarter Horse Centre and local polo yard during the polo season, May - September. We will cover how to compose horse portraits, both head shots and full length, and discuss the best combinations of focal length of the lens used together with shutter speed and aperture. You will also be shooting action images, again learning how to use combinations of shutter speed and aperture to give the impression of speed. You may even have the opportunity to ride. We will stop for a pub lunch, followed by an afternoon on location or at the studio printing your work before leaving around 5pm. Each student will have their favourite image printed to 15" x 11, using giclee papers and archival inks, and presented in a 20" x 16 acid free mount ready for framing.
